My meeting with Martha Stewart
By Kimberly Porrazzo
Imagine getting to chat with Martha Stewart. I got that chance last
year as Stewart was in Southern California to promote her new
community. Yes, community.
KB Homes has launched
Martha Stewart-designed
homes in Perris, CA and the
press was invited to attend
the grand opening. Stewart
had an entourage of staff,
reporters and photographers
surrounding her most of the
day as she put her signature
on the gorgeous model homes.
But as she slipped into the hospitality tent for a breather, I decided to
go in, too. No one stopped me, so I continued to the corner that she
and two staffers occupied. Clutching "The Martha Rules: 10
Essentials for Achieving Success as You Start, Grow, or Manage a
Business," I approached her to sign my book. She graciously agreed
and while she was snacking on fruit and cheese we chatted for a few
moments. She told me about her new line which would soon be
debuting in Michael's Craft stores. (We didn't discuss her prison stay.)
As our conversation was winding down I asked the question that was
most important to me: "Which of your 10 rules for entrepreneurial
success is the most important?" In her finishing school voice she
replied, "Passion." She said it like she meant it. I thanked her for
signing my book and proceeded to take these photos. Enjoy. Be
inspired.
